NEW Backup Exec Exchange Archive Option provides unified backup and archiving for growing Exchange environments by uniquely archiving data from the backup copy rather than by separately pulling data from the source. The archive option will provide administrators with the ability to reduce redundant data from the Exchange server source to free up storage space. Users can easily retrieve individual archived emails using the Backup Exec Retrieve Google-like web UI and administrators can retrieve archived data through the Backup Exec console. Overall administrators will be able to easily index data and set retention periods to efficiently manage data lifecycles.
- Supports Windows 2000, Windows 2003, Windows 2008 and Windows 2008 R2
- Licensed per 10/100 user packs
- Requires an Exchange Agent for each Exchange Server
Control Storage Growth through Archiving
Archiving is critical to maintaining Exchange server size, performance, and scalability. Keeping old, infrequently accessed, and redundant data on primary servers not only wastes precious space, but it also costs time and money to manage, maintain, and back up the data. Consider how much time and storage space is reclaimed for backups and migration projects when there is less active content residing on Exchange primary storage. The Backup Exec Archiving Options will reclaim primary storage space, enable data lifecycle policies, and maintain end-user access to archived files.
Innovative "Off-Host" Archiving operates off Backup Copies of Exchange Mailboxes
Backup Exec's Exchange Mailbox Archiving Option operates off Exchange 2003 and Exchange 2007 mailbox data that the Backup Exec has backed up. Data in the backup set that meets archive criteria – size, age, or a combination of both is copied to the Archive by the Media Server and subsequently deleted from the source Exchange Server. This ―Off-Host‖ archive process has some benefits archiving transfers data once, instead of multiple times, per backup cycle. Additionally, the load on the content source is lower because there is only a single Agent to deploy on the remote machine – the Remote Agent for Exchange. Exchange 2010 support is anticipated in the next release of Backup Exec.
Reduce Archive size with Integrated Deduplication in the Archive
Backup Exec's Exchange Mailbox Archiving Option enables Administrators to move older, less frequently accessed emails and attachments from expensive primary storage to cheaper disk arrays, while allowing end users to access their archived emails through Backup Exec Retrieve, a Web-based Recovery portal for Archived files, folders, and emails. Backup Exec 2010 Exchange Mailbox Archiving will deduplicate and compress data while storing a single copy of an email message in the archive, regardless of the number of times it is archived—or where it was originally from. Lastly, Archiving can apply storage lifecycle policies for data, allowing storage-optimized copies of Emails to be kept for months or years.
